Peter was my SDI in SKC. He admonished me one afternoon (in 1979) about the state of the hawkers in Wai Kek Street and asked that I do something about it. That evening we conducted an op and seized several hawker carts and their wares, which included many fresh flowers. I put most of the flowers in Peter's office late that night; it looked like an out of control jungle.
The next day when I came in for B shift, Peter and the usual suspects were in the mess. "I've got a bone to pick with you!" he said as I walked in. With his shoulders shaking with laughter he explained there had been a DS's inspection that morning, the DS was early and Peter was late. As Peter entered his office the DS (Brian Wigley?) was sitting there amidst my horticultural creation. "Went down like a lead balloon (one of his favorite phrases back then)" he said and bought me a beer.
One of the nicest people I ever met. RIP Peter.
